  Do you want to find a home in SWFL that is environment friendly? This may get a little easier if a campaign to include green information on the area’s multiple listing services prevails. The listing services are operated by the local boards of Realtors.  MLS lists information such as asking price, days on the market and square footage about every house up for sale by a real estate agent. This doesn’t tell a potential buyer if a residence has the green features being looked for by buyers. There is a national campaign by the Washington-based U.S. Green Building Council to persuade Realtor boards to include green fields in their MLS listings. Over 80 country’s with about 880 MLS’s have green fields including the St. Augustine & St. Johns County Board of Realtors. The issue is complicated and isn’t limited to the energy efficiency ratings of appliances, the best-known green residential construction. There are a wide variety of questions to be addressed and details that many people would not even relate to going green. A student dormitory nearing completion at Edison State College’s south Fort Myers campus is up for certification as the first college dorm to meet the building council’s standards for Leadership in Energy and Design, or LEED.
